Understanding your MRI report: a second radiologist reviews your scan — and explains the result in plain language
Radiology reports are written by doctors for doctors, in their own technical language. At Second View you ask a second board-certified radiologist to look at your MRI images again. You receive an independent second opinion written so that patients can understand it — with answers to the questions you actually have. Entirely online, usually within 48 hours.
No account needed · You pay only once a radiologist has accepted your case · from €89
Why an MRI report is so hard to read
A report is a letter from one doctor to another. It describes, region by region, what the images show — often including what is normal — and uses terms that are never explained. What matters, what is incidental and what is simply normal for your age is usually compressed into a single sentence at the end.
The problem is not your understanding; it is the language of the document. And a second question often remains: is the conclusion right in the first place? Our second opinion answers both.
Individual terms are explained in our medical glossary.

What you get from Second View
- A fresh read of your images. A board-certified radiologist licensed in Germany reviews your original MRI images — independently of the first report, not just its text.
- Written for you, not for your doctor. The second opinion explains what the images show, which findings matter for your symptoms and which are harmless incidental findings. Technical terms are put in context rather than assumed.
- Your questions answered. When you submit your case, you tell us what you want to know — for example: does the report fit my symptoms? Is the assessment clear-cut? What should I raise with my own doctor? The second opinion addresses them.
- Follow-up questions welcome. If something is still unclear after reading, ask the radiologist.
How it works
1. Upload your images and report. From a CD, a USB stick or your patient portal — or send us the access details your imaging centre gave you. Add your questions. No account needed.
2. A radiologist accepts your case and quotes the price. A radiological second opinion costs from €89, depending on the exam and the work involved. You pay only after that, online.
3. Receive your second opinion. In writing, in plain English, with answers to your questions — usually within 48 hours.
Frequently asked questions
Do you explain my existing report sentence by sentence?
No — we do something better. A second board-certified radiologist reviews your images and writes their own second opinion: in plain language, with the technical terms put in context, and with answers to your questions. If their assessment differs from the first report, they say so clearly.
What questions can I ask?
Anything you want to know about your images and your report — for example: does the report fit my symptoms? Is the assessment clear-cut, or is there room for interpretation? What does a particular term mean in my case? What should I raise with my own doctor? You add your questions when you submit your case, and you can ask follow-up questions once you have the second opinion.
What a second opinion cannot do: decide on a treatment or replace an in-person examination. That remains the job of the doctors treating you.
Is the written report enough, or do you need the images?
We need the images. The second opinion is based on your original MRI images, not on the text of the first report. If you do not have a CD, the login details for the image portal that your imaging centre gave you are usually enough. Your imaging centre must give you a copy of your scans if you ask.
Can’t I just show my report to an AI?
For the meaning of individual terms, that can help. But an AI does not see your images, does not know your symptoms and takes no responsibility for what it tells you. At Second View, a radiologist licensed in Germany reviews your scans personally and stands behind the assessment, as with any medical service.
What does it cost?
From €89, depending on the exam and the work involved. The radiologist quotes the price before you pay. If your case is not accepted, you pay nothing.
How quickly will I get the second opinion?
Usually within 48 hours of a complete upload, in writing and in English.
What if my report is fine?
Then that is exactly what you will hear — with the reasons, in plain language. For many people this is the real value: knowing that “age-appropriate” or “degenerative” really means nothing worrying in their case. If the second opinion differs, you know what to discuss with your own doctor.
Who is this service for?
Patients living in the EU, the EEA or Switzerland. We cannot accept requests from the USA, Canada or other countries outside that area. You receive the second opinion in English or German.
What a second opinion can and cannot do
We give you an independent, expert second read of imaging you already have — an MRI, CT or X-ray. That read is based entirely on the images and the background you send us.
Please keep in mind:
- A second opinion does not replace an in-person exam or treatment
- It is not for emergencies
- It is advisory — it gives you information to help you decide what to do next
- We cannot make diagnoses or recommend treatments that require an in-person examination
Every consultation and report follows the professional and data protection rules that apply to physicians in Germany.
If you are unsure, or your symptoms are severe or getting worse, always contact your own doctor or emergency services (112 in Europe).
